Why the Molecular Weight of Hyaluronic Acid Is Important?

There are many types of hyaluronic acid available to formulators. The molecule size and weight allows HA to perform in a variety of different ways.

Heavy and medium weight HA are used to form a layer of protective film on the skin. This layer prevents moisture from escaping and pollution from entering. They remain on the surface of the skin but are nevertheless able to soften the skin cuticle and reduce skin roughness. Heavier HA acts as a gelling agent, helping to thicken and stabilize emulsions.

Low weight HA, conversely is able to penetrate the skin to nourish and hydrate deeply. Hyaluronic acid that is less than 10 daltons in size can also scavenge free radicals, stimulate cell growth and repair skin damage.

Because we develop our own formulas we table to be highly selective about not only the weight of our HA, but also our supplier. After evaluating countless sources we secured a 100% pure vegan HA, created through fermentation. This HA carries a heavy price tag as compared to others on the market, but the results of extensive clinical studies, clearly demonstrate it’s remarkable value.

Found in the products included in our hyaluronic collection: REFRESH Mineral Mist, RENEW Face Serum, REVIVE Eye Emulsion, PROTECT Barrier Cream with SPF.
