ASTAXANTHIN

As you know we are ingredient obsessed. We take sourcing seriously and get so excited when we find suppliers just as committed to quality and sustainability as we are. One such ingredient worth celebrating is astaxanthin.

Ours is sourced from Haematococcus Pluvalis algae that is grown within an entirely closed system on a Kibbutz in the Arava Desert. Using 700 km of glass tubes, solar energy and recycled ancient sea water, our supplier has converted non-fertile land into an antioxidant oasis.

The cultivation process displaces no crops, utilizes carbon dioxide and creates only oxygen as waste. The microalgae begins life green, but the harsh sun stresses the algae to produce and accumulate astaxanthin, a deep red anti-inflammatory carotenoid (the same substance that give flamingo their signature hue).

Astaxanthin is 500 times more effective than Vitamin E at protecting the body from oxidative stress and uniquely enables the protection of cells from both internal and external stressors. Also unlike other antioxidants, astaxanthin has no pro-oxidant activity.

Ingested it is known to support brain, eye, cardiovascular, joint and immune function. Used topically and internally it has demonstrated the ability to protect UV against UV damage, reduce fine lines, wrinkles, water loss and skin elasticity as well as lessen hyperpigmentation.

Its one of the star ingredients in our RENEW face serum and will be soon available in other LINNÉ products.
