WHAT IS A SKINCARE ROUTINE MADE UP OF?

At LINNÉ we believe that a proper skincare routine goes beyond skin deep. That includes choosing the right products that not only serve your skin superficially, but that properly nourish and protect cellular functioning. Moreover, as a baseline, they should be safe for use on your largest organ.

Proper skincare also means having a healthy state of mind. Mental well-being has a significant effect on skin health. Emotions such as stress and anxiety trigger the release of cortisol and adrenaline into the body, causing an increase in oil production and thus resulting in acne breakouts. Stress also causes internal inflammation, which can impact the balance of bacteria in our gut. Internal inflammation manifests externally as conditions such as acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis. In addition, stress hormones break down our skin’s collagen and elastin resulting in premature aging and the formation of wrinkles.

Having a good skincare routine thus includes any way you decrease stress whether that be solo mediation, social time with friends and family, journaling, cooking, snuggling up with a book or prioritizing sleep. One other way to destress is to reorganize and declutter our living spaces (something we are doing a lot lately now that we have relocated to Charleston). By tidying space we too can declutter the mind and make room for creativity and productivity! What are your favorite lifestyle and wellness additions to your skincare routine?
