LAC ROSE, our new rose-copper shimmer was named after the pink salt lake in Senegal. The lake, just north of the Cap Vert peninsula, is separated from the Atlantic Ocean only by a narrow corridor of dunes. Lac Rose is notable for its high salt content, up to 40% in some areas, and of course, it’s pink color, a result of Dunaliella salina algae. The algae produces a red pigment to assist in absorbing light, which provides energy to create ATP. The color is particularly visible during the dry season. Magenta colored samphire bushes flourish in the surrounding white sandbanks, and the Terra-cotta sand dunes further add to the beauty and magic of the region.
