When it comes to exfoliation, less is more. We are all for the smooth, clear, bright and glowing complexion that weekly use of SCRUB face mask provides but overzealous use of any type of exfoliant can lead to contact dermatitis, inflammation, redness, dryness, tightness or a film-like appearance and even acne.
In a recent Refinery 29 article, aesthetician @alicia.lartey shared that a luxury exfoliating toner has been the cause of "so much stress" in her London clinic. Clients use it too often and damage their skin barrier.
But frequency isn't the only issue - according to @drjustinekluk its how we're combining our acid-based products with our other skincare that can be an issue, too. As skin-minimalist we were thrilled to learn from Dr. Kluk that "Nobody needs a 10-step skincare routine".
According to Dr. Kluk, "when combined with other active ingredients, such as retinol, using multiple different acids in your routine — introducing products too rapidly, or using them too frequently — can lead to an impaired skin barrier and increased skin sensitivity. This might result in dryness, redness, roughness, flaking, soreness, tightness, itching and reduced tolerance of your other usual skincare."
Rather than assault your skin into submission LINNÉ products are formulated to support the skin's natural function whether that be cellular turnover or repair. Think of your products as skin food. Feed your skin the very best nutrition and avoid over-indulgent behavior. If you do get carried away, just remember you can always course correct and get back to basics. We'll be here waiting for you.
