THE BENEFITS OF FERMENTED FOOD

Today we’re on the subject of probiotics - another easy way to supplement to your beauty routine and support overall health.

Probiotics are strands of healthy bacteria that improve the functioning of the digestive system, decrease inflammation, improve our immune system, clear skin, boost metabolism, and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Probiotics are available in manufactured capsules but our preferred way to enjoy them is via fermented foods such as krauts, yogurt, pickles, kimchi and kombucha. Almost any vegetable can be fermented - and trust me we’ve had lots of fun experimenting!

Not only is fermentation a more delectable delivery system but the probiotics in fermented food have a more comprehensive collection of probiotics than supplement capsules: there are trillions of bacteria in fermented food where as there are billions in probiotic supplements. To ensure a truly diverse assortment of beneficial bacteria, it’s best to have a few different fermented items on hand, whether purchased or homemade.

Below are a few of our favorite simple ferment recipes along with some basic gadgets, cookbooks and other inspo:
