Frequently Asked Questions

Why Zinc?

We've concluded that zinc oxide is the safest, most effective active sunscreen ingredient available. It is the only truly effective, single-ingredient, broad spectrum blocker, meaning it protects from UVA, UVB, and even UVC rays. UVB rays are associated with DNA damage and skin cancer. UVA rays are responsible for photo-aging, including wrinkles, roughness, broken capillaries and age spots. If a sunscreen is not marked as broad spectrum it will only protect against UVB rays.

Beyond human concern, we have opted for non-nano zinc to protect our oceans. Oxybenzone and octinoxate, octocrylene. homosalate. benzophenone-1, benzophenone-8, OD-PABA, 4-methylbenzylidene camphor, and 3-benzylidene camphor can all affect corals' reproductive cycle, damage DNA, and worsen the effects of coral bleaching.

Should I wear this everyday even if not going outside?

Yes! Not only is PROTECT filled with nourishing, moisturizing, contouring, reparative ingredients, but it contains pollution and blue light protection. Why blue light? Blue light emitted from our phones and screens is known to contribute to brown spots, hyperpigmentation such as melasma, and possibly photoaging and the breakdown of collagen. Use PROTECT rain or shine for your healthiest skin!

What are extremolytes?

Extremolytes are a small stress-protection molecule that protects microorganisms living under extreme conditions. We use the extremolyte called Ectoin in PROTECT. First discovered in a salt lake in the Egyptian desert in 1985, ectoin has since been well-researched, and has demonstrated pollution & light protection, skin hydration, soothing, and barrier repair action on the skin. Ectoin is able to protect cell membranes from chemical and physical damage, reducing oxidative stress and cell inflammation.
