To keep your skin healthy, hydrated, and protected from environmental stressors, it’s essential to maintain a balanced skin pH. But what exactly does that mean?
The pH scale ranges from 1 to 14, with lower numbers representing acidity and higher numbers representing alkalinity. Human skin naturally sits between 5.4 and 5.9, making it slightly acidic. This mild acidity is key: it helps the skin retain moisture while creating an inhospitable environment for harmful pathogens, free radicals, toxins, and pollutants.
However, just like the body itself, skin health is about equilibrium. Too much acidity can lead to inflammation and conditions such as eczema or acne.
Interestingly, the pH of our skin varies from region to region. Areas more frequently exposed to the environment, like the face, neck, chest, and hands, tend to be more alkaline, while protected areas such as the armpits and genitals are slightly more acidic.
At LINNÉ, every product is formulated to harmonize with your skin’s natural chemistry. Our formulations maintain a pH between 5.5 and 6.0, close to that of healthy skin, ensuring that each product is both effective and gentle. Cleansers and soaps are among the most common disruptors of skin pH. Traditional soaps are alkaline by nature and can strip the skin of essential lipids, leaving it dry, irritated, and vulnerable. Our PURIFY Face Wash is different; it is pH balanced to cleanse without compromise, supporting hydration and barrier function. Similarly, SCRUB incorporates alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) in carefully calibrated concentrations that gently exfoliate without causing excessive acidity or irritation.
Rather than forcing the skin into submission with aggressive actives, we formulate to support its natural intelligence and regenerative capacity.
Our care extends beyond actives and into our preservation systems. All LINNÉ products are stabilized with ingredients that protect both the skin and the microbiome. For water-based formulas, we use a fermentation of radish root, a natural source of beneficial bacteria that guards against unwanted microbial growth. For oil-based formulas, we use CO₂-extracted organic rosemary, a potent antioxidant that protects product freshness. Many of our blends also feature antibacterial and antiviral essential oils, which are uniquely effective without contributing to bacterial resistance. In fact, some can even reverse it.
In short, we formulate with precision and purpose, respecting the skin’s natural processes and its delicate acid mantle. When pH is balanced and the microbiome is supported, your skin can do what it was designed to do best: thrive!
